Week 4
Power Poll

It’s the second Power Poll of the season! I’m trending to hit that 2.5 over for Polls this season. So where do we sit through four weeks? The league is basically a big ol’ jumbled up mess. The two winless teams both got their first wins of the season in Week 4 while we only have two 3-1 teams and everyone else is 2-2 and caught in the logjam. The Tomlinson Division has four teams at the top at 2-2 and then the Power Poll leader at 1-3. We also had our first trade, and it was a wild week on waivers as there was a lot of money spent (128 in FAAB), but everyone bid against themselves essentially. Let’s jump into the Poll!

1. Miami Mighty Mullets (422.22 pts) – If you follow the Sleeper league chat, DiNardo would have you believe that he has the worst luck of any owner in this league...and, well he would be onto something there. The Mullets are first in the Power Poll but are just 1-3 through four weeks and just picked up their first win last week with a victory over Mexico City AFC. Besides one bad week in Week 1, they’ve scored 98 points in Week 2 and 100+ in each of the last two weeks. RB Christian McCaffrey is basically the only healthy 49er right now which is surprising because he’s on DiNardo’s team, but CMC and two rookie RBs in Quinshon Judkins and Cam Skattebo are trying to keep this team going as the Mullets face struggling Jackson Hole in Week 5.
2. Arizona Scorpions (418.56 pts) – After starting the season 2-0, the Scorpions suddenly are 2-2 despite scoring 92.72 (their lowest on the season) and 109.56 the past two weeks. Ryan is hoping this isn’t starting to become a repeat of last season with the bad luck. The big concern with this talented team is WR Ja’Marr Chase has now had three duds in four weeks with the injury to QB Joe Burrow. The rest of the team is humming, but they need their second overall pick to do something.
3. San Antonio Salsa (404.62 pts) – It wasn’t the most impressive week ever, but Dr. Leight gets an A+ for sneaking RB Kenneth Gainwell off free agency when the news of RB Jaylen Warren’s inactive status hit early Sunday morning. Thanks to Gainwell’s stellar performance, the Salsa were still able to pick up a win over a division rival in a week when stud RBs Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor didn’t do much of anything.
4. Albuquerque Atheists (391.96 pts) – The Atheists got into an old-fashioned shootout with rival Arizona and came away with the victory thanks to RB Josh Jacobs’ 27.70 points and WR Courtland Sutton doing enough on MNF to hold the win 120.98 – 109.56. It was a win they needed with the Packers off this week when they take on another divisional opponent in Orlando. Albuquerque could sure use the WR Nico Collins breakout game this week.
5. Charleston Confederates (389.26 pts) – The Confederates are hanging around at 2-2, but they are coming on strong. QB Patrick Mahomes is doing his thing, rookie RB Ashton Jeanty had his breakout game with 32.50 points last weekend, and he has three top 10 WRs including the top one right now in all formats in WR Puka Nacua who gets about 15 targets a game. It’s early, but this 2-2 Charleston team kind of looks a little scary. This week will be a good test for them against the Scorpions.
6. Toronto Storm (377.86 pts) – The Storm sits in the middle of the Poll and the middle of the standings at 2-2 and could have easily been 3-1 with a respectable 95.60 points last week. However, paging WR AJ Brown? That man has scored below one point TWICE this season already. And Chase Brown is RB 34 so far this season. Jared needs Barkley to break a leg and let the Eagles pass pass pass. Jared did make a trade this week, dealing WR Jordan Addison to Jackson Hole for a solid TE in Sam LaPorta. LaPorta has underwhelmed so far this season so it’ll be interesting to see how that one plays out.
7. Orlando Pelicans (352.66 pts) – Tough week for the Pelicans as they were hit with the late news that RB Jaylen Warren was inactive in Ireland (too much Guinness, perhaps?) and the early start must have caught Antonio off guard as Warren remained in his lineup. To double down on his bad break, his divisional opponent Dr. Leight wisely snatched up RB Kenneth Gainwell and he looked like Barry Sanders out there carving up the Vikings defense to the tune of 25.40 points and was basically the difference in the loss to the Salsa. That’s a lesson to everyone as there are international games for the next month I believe. Check those lineups early Sunday morning!
8. St. Louis Aces (352.36 pts) – The Aces got off the schneid in Week 4 with a victory over the Mountain Men and their first 100-point performance of Year 29. The hits keep coming for this team, however, with injuries now to QB Brock Purdy, RB Trey Benson going on the IR, WR Ricky Pearsall is out this week and TE Brock Bowers is supposedly not 100%. If Ian’s looking for something promising, the team has improved each week out: 61.14, 79.84, 95.52 and now 115.86 this week. But with all those injuries piling up and RB Bijan Robinson and WR Drake London’s bye week in Week 5, going for a second consecutive victory against the Salsa is going to be a tough ask.
9. Mexico City AFC (339.34 pts) – Despite being 9th in the Poll, Mexico City AFC is still 2-2 and has a strong stable of RBs so far—Saquon Barkley, Bucky Irving, Kyren Williams and JK Dobbins. Irving is banged up and may miss Week 5, but the depth will help there. The problem for this team has been the QB position. Hermann waited until the cows came home to draft a QB and now since Brock Purdy’s injury, they’ve been streaming signal callers and it’s not going particularly well. Here's their QB points output the past 3 weeks while streaming: 4.98 (Fields), 7.90 (Browning) and 12.78 (Geno Smith).
10. Jackson Hole Mountain Men (310.38 pts) – What’s that famous song lyric? “In a Jackson Hole minute.... everything can change!” Just two weeks ago, the Mountain Men were 2-0 and sitting pretty 2nd in the Power Poll with 209.56 points. Then they put up two putrid performances of just 38.84 and 61.98 in back-to-back weeks. 38.84! That is the lowest total since last year when Jared and the Storm scored just 36.24 points (the record low is 27 points). Injuries to CD Lamb, and Malik Nabers have gutted the WR core and WR Ladd McConkey hasn’t even scored more than 7 points in any week. They just traded for WR Jordan Addison, but not sure it’s enough to get this team cooking again.
